The Google-owned videos sharing site YouTube is one of the most visited online domains out there, and for good reason. You can watch just about everything on YouTube, from funny to educational videos, from makeup tips to music videos. Viewing videos on YouTube is a fairly straightforward process; you just need to fire up your browser, go to YouTube.com, find a video you want to watch, and then watch it.

But what if you don’t have unlimited access to the web, or if you’re going someplace where you have no internet connectivity, or if you simply do not want to visit YouTube every time you want to watch a video. In this case you can use specialized software to download YouTube videos onto your computer. Such a specialized software application is the HiHiSoft-developed and aptly named YouTube Download (a.k.a YouTubeGet).

The YouTube Download installation file is of only 4MB, which means it will take little time to get it off the web and onto your computer. Installing the application is as simple as following a few steps presented by a setup wizard. You will notice that the application’s name changes to YouTubeGet in the setup wizard and that once the installation process is complete, there’s a YouTubeGet shortcut on your desktop (assuming, of course, that you did not uncheck the option to create a desktop icon).

The user friendly interface makes it quite easy to take advantage of the functionality YouTube Download has to offer. To download a YouTube video you can just click the Add button and paste that video’s URL in the window that appears. Speaking of which, it must be mentioned that this window shows up automatically when you copy a YouTube link in your browser. Getting back to the topic at hand, after you paste the URL, you can select to which format you want the YouTube video to be converted. You can have it converted to AVI, MP4, WMV, and a few other formats.

By default, YouTube Download will automatically open the output folder once the download and conversion processes are over. The default folder is C:download; you can change it to something else if you want to. If you don’t change anything, once the download and conversion are over, the C:download folder opens and you are presented with the YouTube video you downloaded.

There is another means of downloading videos with the YouTube Download application: you can use the built-in browser. The application has a feature called YouTube Browser (it’s in the Tools menu). You can use it to browse YouTube and download videos.

YouTube Download puts a handy floating icon on your desktop. You can use it to bring up the application’s main window, to access the converter, to add a new video to be downloaded, and to access the application’s settings.

Please note that the trial version of YouTube Download (or YouTube Get) converts up to 50% of the source file. You will have to get a license to keep using this application.
